Olduvai Gorge Archeology

Olduvai-Gorge

Olduvai Gorge is located just to the northwest of the Ngorongoro Crater in the Serengeti Plain is Olduvai Gorge. Based on the archeological, anthropological, and paleontological evidence unearthed by Mary and Louis Leaky in the Serengeti Plain in the 1950’s. Their scientific excavations led to the discovery of the earliest human skeletal remains at that time along with stone tools at the site. These fossilized remains, footprints, and stone tools were the oldest evidence of humankind at that time. This evidence proves that the Serengeti was inhabited by Homo sapiens 1.8 million years ago, confirming that East Africa was the birthplace of humanity.
